Peocon is a company that focuses on building valuable knowledge from visitor data in a variety of sectors. The company was founded in the year 2001 and is a market leader in the development of visitor counting solutions and in creating meaningful valuable knowledge from visitor counting data.
Peocon visitor counting solutions apply computer vision on live video stream to count visitors as the enter or exit. Peocon technology is based in part on 25 years of image analysis experience and knowledge of it’s mother company Vaki aquaculture systems. Peocon is privately owned by Vaki and located in Kópavogur Iceland.
Peocon uses it’s expertise in computer vision, data integration and retail consulting to help its customers do better and smarter business.
Hermann Kristjánsson
Chairman of the board, co-founder
Hermann is the Managing Director of Vaki DNG, Peocon´s largest owner and a worldwide market leader in digital imaging counting technology for the commercial fishing and fish farming industry. Hermann founded Vaki in 1984. Sixteen years later, in 2000, he could not help but respond to the then urgent need for an accurate people counting system that would be based on the same digital imaging technology that allows Vaki to count up to 500.000 fish per hour with 98-99% accuracy. That is how Peocon was founded.
Hermann holds a B.Sc. degree in engineering from the University of Iceland and speaks 4 languages.
Jón Gunnar Björnsson
Chief Executive Officer
Jón Gunnar was one of the first employees of Peocon. He was initially a employee of Vaki DNG and a key member of the team who developed the organisations first innovative people counting solutions. Jón Gunnar has extensive experience in the IT sector as a developer, project manager, sales and marketing executive. Jón Gunnar has now just returned to Peocon to lead the company.
Jón Gunnar holds a B.Sc. degree in Computer Science and an MBA from the University of Iceland and a member of the 2010 Icelandic Water Polo Champion Team.
Timothy Bishop
Chief Technology Officer
Timothy has extensive experience in the IT industry, having worked with both national and international UK-based companies. For the last eight years his roles have included systems installations and support, training management, support management and commercial software development. He has broad and diverse technical education and has written and delivered courses in many technical subjects including object oriented programming, web development and Windows NT security. Timothy served for eight years as an officer in the UK Royal Navy as a helicopter navigator and mission commander, during which time he specialised in computerised image analysis, signal processing systems, anti-submarine warfare and flight instruction. He is also a qualified pilot and mountain leader.
Gunnar Þór Gunnarsson
Service Manager
Gunnar graduated from Odense Teknikum Danmark in 1992 as an B.Sc. Electronic Engineer and he has 15 years’ experience in the IT industry. Gunnar’s speciality in Engineering is Data Automation and Information technology. His role is to serve and get to know our customers, understand their needs and use this knowledge to drive development of our systems.
Hanna María Hjálmtýsdóttir
Chief Financial Officer
Hanna María is the CFO of Vaki and plays a leading role in the financial structuring and planning of Peocon.
